Overview

The ‘world’s most haunted castle’ has a turbulent and bloody history as a fortress, home and tomb and is said to be home to many fascinating and sometimes horrific spirits. Built in the early 1500s under the supervision of the powerful and warring O’Carroll clan, Leap Castle has been the centre of much bloodshed and brutal atrocities.

From here the O’Carrolls set out for victory and defeat, to here they brought their brides and captives, and within here lurks Ireland’s most intriguing elemental presence – one that is reputed to give off a ghastly ghostly odour. Open to visitors on request.
