The village of Lorrha boasts a number of fascinating religious sites, including the place where St Ruadhan founded a monastery in 540. The present church ruins, situated about 30km from Nenagh, date from about 1000.

Visitors to the historic site won’t want to miss the opportunity to see the remains of two high crosses in the churchyard which date from 750 and are among the oldest of their kind in Ireland. St Ruadhan’s Well, which served as the monastic settlement’s main source of water is also nearby.
