We Are Still Here: Portraits from Nenagh is a mixed-media exhibition exploring identity, resilience, and belonging in contemporary rural Ireland. Through large-scale photographic portraits with hand-stitched and painted details, artist-educator Shannen Slattery collaborates with local participants to celebrate people who are often overlooked or stereotyped. Each portrait is paired with the sitter’s own voice, inviting visitors to listen as well as look.
The exhibition offers a quiet but powerful form of visibility, honouring those who remain, endure, and continue to take up space in their community.
Shannen Slattery will host a relaxed walk-through of the exhibition in the Nenagh Arts, where she introduces the stories behind the portraits, discusses her collaborative process, and answers questions from visitors. Free entry.
