An evening of history, storytelling and conversation
revisits one of Ireland’s most compelling true stories.
The story of Bridget Cleary – often remembered as Ireland’s
“last witch” – returns to Tipperary in a powerful new podcast
that explores the woman, times and folklore behind the myth.
The Last Witch Bridget Cleary, written, produced and narrated
by Eve O’Mahony, will be officially launched at The Source
Arts Centre, Thurles, on Friday 26 June 2026 at 7.00 p.m.
Admission is free.
Combining historical research, expert interviews and dramatic
reconstruction, the podcast examines the life, death and legacy
of Bridget Cleary, whose murder in 1895 shocked Ireland and
the wider world. Rather than focusing solely on folklore and
superstition, the series asks deeper questions about gender,
belief, folklore’s place in society, social change and the
Ireland of the late nineteenth century.
The launch event will feature an exclusive preview of the
podcast followed by a panel discussion with contributors to
the podcast including filmmaker Anne Williamson, director
of the award-winning independent film Bridget, actor Barry
John Kinsella and Professor of Folklore Stiofán Ó Cadhla.
Together they will explore how Bridget Cleary’s story
continues to inspire artists, filmmakers and audiences more
than 130 years later.

About the Creator
Eve O’Mahony is an actress, writer and producer whose work
spans theatre, television and audio storytelling. Her writing
combines historical research with compelling human stories,
bringing overlooked voices to contemporary audiences. She is
the creator of the acclaimed one-woman show The Last
Witch: Bridget Cleary and has developed this podcast as a
natural extension of that work, drawing together historians,
folklorists, psychiatrists and performers to present a fresh
perspective on one of Ireland’s most enduring mysteries.
