Common Ground — Cahir Arts

Spanning six decades of creative practice, Common Ground at Cahir Arts presents an intimate yet ambitious gathering of twenty contemporary artists who have studied in Limerick. Emerging artists appear alongside established figures, including members of the RHA and Aosdána. The exhibition is both a reflection and a conversation—one that traces shared impulses across generations while acknowledging the distinctiveness of individual voices.

This intergenerational dynamic is central to the exhibition. Having teachers alongside former students—many established artists in their own right—creates a compelling dialogue that moves beyond simple notions of influence. Instead, Common Ground reveals a reciprocal exchange. Ideas are passed down, reinterpreted, challenged, renewed… The exhibition resists hierarchy; allowing emerging artists to occupy the same conceptual space as their more established counterparts, fostering a sense of continuity rather than division.

Rather than adhering to a rigid curatorial framework, Common Ground unfolds through a series of subtle correspondences. Themes of connectivity and lineage emerge not as fixed narratives but as shifting undercurrents, linking works through gesture, material, and sensibility.

Central to the exhibition is the creative process and a common energy as a unifying force. What resonates most is the shared investment in exploration itself. The notion of lineage is handled with particular sensitivity. ideas circulate, intersect, and re-emerge in unexpected ways.

Common Ground seeks to connect—mapping the invisible threads that bind artists across time, experience, and approach. The result is a thoughtful and resonant exhibition that underscores the enduring vitality of Limerick’s artistic community and the shared energies that continue to shape it.
