Rock of Cashel

Set on a dramatic limestone outcrop in the Golden Vale, the Rock of Cashel boasts the most impressive cluster of medieval buildings in Ireland. Among its monuments are a round tower, high cross, Romanesque chapel, Gothic cathedral, and a 15th century tower house. Originally the seat of the kings of Munster, St. Patrick is said to have converted King Aenghus here. Highlights include Cormac’s Chapel, home to the only surviving Romanesque frescoes in Ireland.
