Mitchelstown Cave

Mitchelstown Cave, was discovered in 1833 by local labourer Michael Condon. Mitchelstown Cave is one of Europe’s most impressive limestone show caves. Although the name can be deceptive Mitchelstown Cave is situated in County Tipperary over the border from Mitchelstown County Cork and is located on Ireland’s Ancient East. 40 minutes from Cork City and 20 minutes from the Rock of Cashel. The guided route leads visitors through a series of vast caverns featuring dramatic dripstone formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and the renowned Tower of Babel calcite column. Developed for public access in 1972, it is recognised as one of Ireland’s major show caves and a significant geological site, offering an immersive experience into a subterranean landscape shaped over millions of years. Entry to Mitchelstown Cave is by booking. Bring a picnic along and enjoy the beautiful panoramic views across the Cork and Tipperary Countryside and the highest inland mountain range in Ireland the Galtee Mountains before your descend underground.
