Cahir Castle

One of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval fortresses, Cahir Castle sits on an island in the River Suir with high walls and towers that dominate the town’s skyline. For centuries the home to the Butlers, Barons of Cahir, this castle witnessed many rivalries, rebellions, and conquests. Guided tours reveal these stories and the castle’s impressive defences, which remained impregnable until artillery was used against it in 1599.
