Knockelly Castle

Knockelly Castle, surround by an impressive complete bawn wall with gun turrets and bartizans, was built by the Earls of Ormond in 1465 and subsequently became a Jacobean gentleman’s residence. Currently undergoing conservation, it is open for workshops and guided tours. Knockelly offers a captivating glimpse into Ireland’s social and architectural evolution, brimming with tales of romance and local folklore.
