Well Spring has sprung at last here in Tipperary, and no better place to be we say! The fine weather brings a great excuse for Easter family fun days. Memories of those lazy hazy days of our childhood come flooding back. We are really excited to announce that, not only do we have some of the best scenery along Irelands Ancient East, we now we have some extra visitor attractions in the form of the new canoe slalom course in Clonmel. This month also saw the launch of the fantastic new Horse Country Experience in Fethard (medieval town and home of Rogue Angel). Great ideas to create some top days out for your family.

Family Fun day no 1:

The Clonmel canoe slalom is 300 metres long and runs from Lady Blessington's Weir to the Denis Burke Park. It has been tested by people of all ages and abilities, including Irish squad members, who trained on the river while testing the course. And age is not a factor for this sport, it has also been tried by 7 year olds and even those aged in their sixties. This is the first of its kind in the south east area, and also includes a river play area for canoeists and kayaks. You can find out more from the Clonmel canoe club located at 2 Raheen Rd, Glebe, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary or phone Tipperary Sports Partnership at Ballingarrane House, Clonmel (tel. 052-6187080).

Family Fun day no 2:

Next up for a great day out is the horse museum in Fethard. It’s very fitting that the home of the Grand National Champion Rogue Angel, Rule the World, and the world famous Coolmore Stud, is now the location for Fethard Horse Country Experience. The project involved four years of restoration, six years of planning and two thousand years of history! Located in the 17th century Town Hall, it’s a must for horse and pony lovers everywhere. It charts the story of the horse and its various roles in Irish culture over the past 2000 years.

Fethard Horse Country Experience will be officially opened later this year but is currently open from 10am to 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday at the special introductory price of €5. Please note that there are special concession prices available to groups with custom opening times if required. For enquiries and group bookings please contact Tel: 086 2747044.

So why not make your own memories or have a sneaky “it’s a you and me day” today? Go on, you know you want to!
