The world famous Ballydoyle Stable, founded by one of the greatest trainers of all time, Vincent O’Brien, has seen some legendary horses pass through its doors, many including the great Saddlers Wells went on to stand as stallions at their breeding arm Coolmore Stud. Our tip for Tipp is to keep an eye out as you drive through the south east of Tipperary. The beautiful young foal you see by their mother’s side could be a future horseracing legend.
This memorial site was where students and teachers met during the times of the Penal Laws, when the protestant government forbade any catholic or papal traditions or education to be spread. Hedge schools were very risky to operate, with the punishments ranging from hefty fines, imprisonment, or even death by hanging. However, the hedge school teachers and parents braved the odds and made many sacrifices to ensure that their pupils and children were educated in not only reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also some Latin, Greek, and traditional Irish culture.
