Did You Know?

The GAA is the cultural body that is dedicated to running and administering Ireland’s native sports including Gaelic Football and Hurling. Our tip is to get along to a hurling game. During the summer months you won’t get a better combination of Irish culture and a party than cheering on the blue and gold in what we like to call the best field game in the world.

Address: Lorrha, Nenagh, Lorrha, Co. Tipperary
The Abbey was founded in the twelfth century by the Order of Canons regular. Over the following century the building was twice burnt and rebuilt.

The beautiful doorway was added in the reign of Edward I in 1280 and the carved head over the doorway represents the wife of De Burgo. The Archway over the entrance of St Ruadhan's Abbey was formerly the East Window of the Augustinian Abbey and the head over this doorway represents De Burgo himself. There is some evidence to suggest that the building adjoining the Abbey was once a convent.
