Franciscan Friary Tipperary

In the 15th century, a Franciscan friary was established in the town of Roscrea, County Tipperary. Its founder is not known with certainty, though many people attribute the ecclesiastical site to Maolruany na Feasóige or Maolruany O'Carroll.

The friary featured a house, dormitory, prior’s chamber, chapel, cemetery, garden and orchards. It fell into ruin after the friars were expelled in 1579.

Today, the remains are incorporated into a Roman Catholic church. Visitors can view the original east and north chancel walls, bell tower and parts of the northern nave arcade.
